How do I remove small blemishes from the surface of my glass?

There are many tools that will remove surface blemishes from your glass. A lot of the choice will depend on where the blemish is and how much glass has to be removed from your piece in order to reduce the blemish.

The easiest tools for surface blemishes where you have easy access to them would be our 1 inch diamond and smoothing disk kits. The 1 inch diamond kit contains electroplated velcro backed diamond disks from 3M that range in grit from 60, 120, 200, 400 and 800 grit. These are very useful for areas where more glass needs to be removed. From this kit you would then move to our diamond smoothing disk kit which contains a resin bonded diamond disk set with velcro backing in 220, 325 and 600 grit. Due to the nature of a resin bonded diamond, these grits will actually give you a finer finish on the glass than the 800 grit electroplated disk in the earlier kit. After the 600 grit resin bonded diamond the diamond smoothing disk kit also contains several 3M cerium impregnated disks that are used with just water to polish our your area. We also carry the 3M electroplated diamond disks in a 1/2 inch size with PSA backing for cleaning up even smaller areas.

Combined, these kits are a very easy and formidable way to quickly remove blemishes from your work. If the areas are small and very little glass needs to be removed in order to clear it up, you can also start with the Smoothing disk kit and forego the electroplated diamond disks altogether.

For areas where access is limited, we also carry 3M EverRun diamond bands that fit onto a rubber drum on either a 3/32 or 1/8 inch shank point. The EverRun bands come in electroplated diamond bands from 60, 120, 200, 400 and 800 grit for removal of glass. We also carry the EverRun Diamond Finishing bands in an electrostatic diamond in 300, 400, and 600 grit that will give a similar surface to the resin bonded diamonds and clean up the heavier scratches left behind by even the 800 grit electroplated EverRun bands. To finish off the area, we have 3M's cerium impregnated material in EverRun band form for quick and easy polish.
